Atlanta Cool Roof Ordinance

Atlanta’s cool roof ordinance amends the city’s building code and applies to all building types and zoning districts. Low slope roofs must achieve a 3-year aged solar reflectance of 0.70 and a 3-year aged SRI of at least 85. High slope roofs must achieve a 3-year aged solar reflectance of at least 0.21 and a 3-year aged SRI of at least 20. The ordinance also creates a simplified permitting procedure to allow the city to enforce these new provisions. These provisions are effective in June 2026.
