Birmingham Construction Protections and Maintenance for Green Infrastructure and Stormwater Practices

This ordinance establishes protections and maintenance requirements for green infrastructure and stormwater drainage systems during construction activities. Green infrastructure areas must be protected from compaction and pollution by heavy equipment, vehicles, and materials. These areas must be clearly identified on plans and fenced off to prevent disturbances unless specified in an approved stormwater management plan. The use of green infrastructure for sediment control is strictly prohibited. Post-construction systems must be inspected and cleared of sediment, trash, and debris to meet functional design capacity. The ordinance also prohibits the storage of construction or demolition-related waste in stormwater systems and allows the director to require corrective actions for noncompliance.
