Boston Tree Canopy Ordinance

The Boston Tree Canopy Ordinance includes protections against removing public shade trees, rules around replacing trees that are removed, and establishes a “Street Tree Stabilization Fund.” The ordinance also establishes rules about removing and replacing private trees, as well as penalties for violations of the ordinance. The ordinance includes findings, incorporated as whereas clauses, relating to the role of trees in providing environmental services.
