Cambridge Zoning Provisions Regarding Green Roofs

Provisions in Cambridge’s zoning code recognize the role of green roofs in providing stormwater management, mitigating heat, and as an amenity building occupants enjoy. The code recognizes several types of green roof, and includes requirements that large new buildings (except most affordable housing) must have at least at least 80% green roof, combination roof, or solar energy systems. All green roofs proposed must be accompanied by a long-term operations and maintenance plan.
