Charlotte Tree Ordinance

The Charlotte Tree Ordinance’s purpose is to “protect and promote the health, safety, and general welfare of the public by providing for the regulation of the planting, maintenance and removal of trees.”

Includes the following provisions:
– Minimum of 15% of a commercial site must be preserved as “tree save area.” If less than 15% of the site has existing trees, additional trees shall be planted. Installing and maintaining a living green roof is an alternative to meeting the requirement for 15% tree save area, as well as off-site mitigation or payment in-lieu.
