Chicago Cool Roofs Ordinance

Chicago requires oof coverings on low-sloped roofs to have an initial reflectance value of 0.72 or a three-year-aged solar reflectance value of 0.5 or greater. The city’s rules include exceptions for roofs that are 50% or greater green roof or roof garden. For high-slope roofs, the initial reflectance value must be 0.15 or greater, and is not required on historical buildings.
