Chicago Solar-Ready Roofs Ordinance

Under Chicago’s Solar-Ready Roofs ordinance, large new construction projects must be designed to maintain a “solar-ready surface area” suitable for installing rooftop solar. In addition, for a building to which these requirements apply, the main electrical service panel must have a reserved space to allow installation of a dual-pole circuit breaker for future solar electric and a dual-pole circuit breaker for future energy storage system installation.
