DC Low Impact Development (LID) Construction and Maintenance Guidance Manual

This Low Impact Development (LID) Construction and Maintenance Guidance Manual was funded by the District of Columbia, District Department of the Environment (DDOE)/Watershed Protection Division (WPD). The purpose of this guidance manual is to provide technical information on the design, construction, inspection, and maintenance of four LID practices: 1. Infiltration Devices; 2. Permeable Pavers/Pavement; 3. Rain Gardens/Bioretention; 4. Rain Barrels/Rainwater Harvesting. The manual aims to support the District’s stormwater and watershed‑protection goals by promoting LID as a strategy to maintain or restore natural hydrologic functions of sites, such as reducing runoff volume, improving infiltration, and maintaining water quality.
