Denver Heat Island Effect Mitigation Plan

The Denver Heat Island Mitigation Plan requires that at least 50% of a site’s hardscape, excluding areas covered by solar systems, incorporate sustainable solutions. These may include planting native or adapted vegetation to provide shade within ten years, using high-reflectance paving materials, installing permeable pavement with adequate drainage, or incorporating shading structures. Alternatives include parking beneath buildings or shading provided by structures that meet designated standards.
