Fremont Tree Protection Ordinance

This Fremont ordinance establishes tree preservation policies for the city. A permit is required to cut down a tree in Fremont and will only be granted under specific circumstances, such as when the tree is hosting an insect that threatens other healthy trees. If a private protected tree is authorized for removal, the property owner must either plant a 24-inch box replacement tree (or a 15-gallon tree for single-family homes) or pay the city a fee equivalent to the cost of a 24-inch box tree. These fees are dedicated to enhancing the city’s urban forest.
