Grand Forks Solar Siting Regulations

Grand Forks’ solar access rules prohibit uses on an adjacent lot that would block a solar collector’s access to sunlight. Specifically, the protected portion of a solar array is both “located so as not to be shaded between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. by a hypothetical twelve-foot obstruction located on the lot line,” and which covers “an area of not greater than one-half (½) of the heated floor area of the structure, or the largest of the structures, served.”
