Greensboro Tree Conservation Requirements

These requirements are intended to help preserve the city’s remaining tree canopy, and are accompanied by the Landscaping and Tree Conservation Manual (https://www.greensboro-nc.gov/home/showpublisheddocument/8671/638236393132470000) which contains illustrations and explanations of key requirements.

Includes the following provisions:
– Tree disturbance permit required prior to any tree-disturbing activities unless exempt or a single family residential property.
– Requirement to add a planting yard for all expansions that exceed 3,000 square feet. A planting yard is a strip of land around the perimeter of a site for canopy trees/understory trees/shrubs.
– Parking lots must have canopy trees within the parking lot (one tree for every twelve parking spaces).
