High Point Sustainability Incentives

The purpose of this section is to promote sustainable development practices as a means of protecting and conserving natural resources and ensuring a high quality of life for residents. More specifically, they are intended to provide incentives for new development to incorporate measures that conserve energy, conserves water, and promotes a healthy landscape.

Includes the following provisions:
– Enables developers to rely on energy conserving features such as “a white roof or roofing materials with minimum reflectivity rating of 60 percent or more” and a “green roof” intended to capture and hold rain water to obtain various types of incentives (such as increase in maximum allowable sign area, reduction of minimum parking space requirements, etc.)
– Enables developers to obtain incentives by increasing open space, dedicating land for community garden, incorporating green stormwater infrastructure, and using renewable energy
