Honolulu BMP to Reduce Impervious Connections by Directing Runoff to Landscapes

Section 3.2.4 of Honolulu’s Stormwater Best Management Practices Guide advises directing runoff to landscaped areas instead of storm drains to reduce Directly Connected Impervious Areas (DCIA), which are major sources of nonpoint source pollution. Minimizing DCIA is a key first step in protecting stormwater quality during site design.
