Honolulu – Rooftop Solar and Energy Devices on Nonconforming Buildings

Honolulu allows energy-saving devices, including solar panels and heat pumps, to be installed up to 5 feet above the rooftop of nonconforming-height buildings. For buildings other than detached homes or duplexes, solar panels may extend up to 12 feet. Space beneath the panels must remain unenclosed and does not count as floor area.
