Indiana NPDES General Permit Best Management Practices (BMPs)

The NPDES general permit program incorporates Best Management Practices (BMPs) to address stormwater discharges and promote permeability. For construction and industrial activities, BMPs include stormwater management systems designed to minimize runoff and pollution, often encouraging the use of permeable surfaces like pervious pavement. Additionally, green infrastructure solutions such as rain gardens, vegetated swales, and other infiltration-based methods are promoted to enhance water infiltration and reduce impervious surface impacts. The program mandates consistent monitoring and maintenance to ensure these BMPs effectively manage stormwater while protecting water quality.
