Indianapolis Development Plan Districts – Sustainable Development

Sustainable regulations in Speedway districts emphasize the use of green infrastructure and environmentally friendly practices. Green roofs are encouraged for stormwater management and are excluded from impervious surface calculations. The use of permeable pavement materials, such as pervious concrete or grid systems, is promoted to reduce runoff and is also excluded from impervious calculations. Sustainable architecture practices, including energy-efficient designs, renewable energy sources, rainwater harvesting, and green roofs, are supported to minimize environmental impacts. Stormwater management strategies prioritize protecting natural drainage, using low-maintenance native landscaping, and incorporating vegetated conveyance systems. These measures apply to SZ-2 developments and allow increased impervious surface limits when sustainable features are integrated.
