Las Cruces Landscaping Standards for Parkways and Medians

This rule establishes the landscape standards for parkways and medians, this includes standards for using vegetation as effective irrigation and stormwater runoff collection. F(1): Irrigation systems are required for all landscaping within parkways and medians; F(2): Sets planting requirements for all parkways and medians; G: Design. Sustainable and environmentally sensitive design shall focus on appropriate plant material, efficient use of irrigation and stormwater runoff, vehicular and pedestrian safety and maximizing aesthetic value of landscape features. Landscape and irrigation plans must be submitted to the city as a part of the subdivision construction and/or building permit process. Overall design must be reviewed and approved by the director of facilities or designee. The city will produce and regularly update guidelines for median and parkway landscape design. Issues to be addressed include but are not limited to plant selection, mulch, grading, hardscape elements, layout of landscape elements, clear sight triangles, clustering of plant material, maintenance issues, and efficient irrigation system features.
