Madison Flood Risk Mitigation

Subdivision proposals exceeding 50 lots or 5 acres must include measures to minimize flood damage and meet stormwater management requirements. Key provisions include Base Flood Elevation (BFE) data, adequate drainage systems, and utility placement to reduce flood risks. Building sites must avoid flood zones, and portions of lots within floodplains must be permanently conserved as open space. A stormwater management plan is required for disturbances over 25,000 sq. ft., with low-impact design and green infrastructure encouraged to meet retention and peak runoff requirements.
