North Las Vegas Water Sustainability Options

The purpose of the North Las Vegas Code of Ordinances § 17.24.140 is to promote sustainable development. Developments are recommended to follow certain sustainable site and building design options to minimize water use in buildings and for irrigation to conserve scarce water supplies, reduce water treatment costs, reduce impacts on natural resources such as rivers, reduce stormwater runoff, and encourage green stormwater alternatives.

Design features related to water conservation and stormwater management include:
1. providing drought-tolerant landscaping within the rear yard without the use of turf in addition to this landscaping already required in the front and side yard.
2. using subsurface irrigation systems equipped with timers to ensure no daytime irrigation.
3. using landscaping film and mulch, limiting open artificial water bodies and shading such water features to reduce evaporation, with points awarded.
4. Water recycling for open space, recreation areas and golf courses, with points awarded..
