New York City’s building code requires that roof coverings on low slope roofs have a either an initial solar reflectance of 0.7 and an initial thermal emittance of 0.75 or a initial solar reflectance index (SRI) of 82. High slope roofs must have either an initial solar reflectance of 0.25 and an initial thermal emittance of 0.75 or an initial SRI of 39.
