NYC DOT Permeable Materials Pilot Program

This New York City Ordinance provides that New York City’s Department of Transportation and Department of Environmental Protection are mandated to conduct a comprehensive study and pilot program evaluating the feasibility of using permeable materials on city roads and sidewalks. The study must assess material types, costs, stormwater permeability, durability, maintenance needs, utility impacts, and restoration methods. It also includes recommendations for public and private use and considers establishing uniform standards. A pilot program will test permeable materials under varied traffic and flood-prone conditions. Results and recommendations must be reported to the City Council and made publicly available online.
