Omaha Urban Heat Island Mapping and Mitigation Strategies

This initiative, part of NOAA’s Urban Heat Island Mapping Project, used citizen-collected temperature and humidity data to identify Omaha’s hottest neighborhoods. The findings will inform policies addressing heat-related health risks, urban heat islands, and climate resilience. A community survey will further assess public perceptions of extreme heat to guide the development of heat action plans, prioritizing equitable mitigation efforts in historically redlined areas.
