Pittsburgh Shade Tree Commission and Regulations

This policy establishes a Shade Tree Commission to ensure the many benefits trees provide to current and future inhabitants of Pittsburgh by: maintaining the health and safety of trees in parks, rights-of-way, and other public spaces; increasing public education and support for urban forestry; providing for the planting of new and replacement trees to achieve a well stocked urban forest; protecting trees during construction and development; and generating funds from the foundation community, corporate community, the citizens of the City, and the private sector to support urban forestry.

Policies and documents relevant to the Commission can be found at https://www.pittsburghpa.gov/City-Government/Boards-Authorities-Commissions/List-of-Boards-Authorities-Commissions/Shade-Tree-Commission/Shade-Tree-Plans-Reports-Resources – this list includes an equitable street tree investment plan, as well as regulations governing tree protection and its effect on permitting.
