Portland 2015 Climate Action Plan – Green Infrastructure

The City of Portland has established its climate objectives related increasing sequestration of carbon through increased green infrastructure (trees, plants, and soil) and natural areas. They are designated through the following: (1) 13D Natural and Green Infrastructure. Protect and enhance local natural resources that provide multiple benefits including carbon capture, reduction of stormwater and heat island impacts, and improvements to public health and biodiversity; (2) 13E Natural and Green Infrastructure Funding. Evaluate and pursue stable, innovative funding sources, financing strategies and incentives to accelerate and sustain green infrastructure implementation and maintenance; (3)13F Designing with Nature. Promote and require urban design and redevelopment approaches that incorporate natural systems and green infrastructure into site improvements, rights of way, green corridors and other infrastructure facilities, as well as adoption of eco-roof targets.
