Portland City Code to Promote and Implement Eco-Roofs

This rule requires that new buildings in Portland’s Central City Plan District with a net building area of 20,000 square feet or more must have an ecoroof that covers 100% of the building area (with exceptions). Up to 40% of the roof area may be covered with a combination of things which include solar panels, skylights, equipment used for capturing or directing rainwater to a rainwater harvesting system, etc. In addition, the ecoroof must be approved by the Bureau of Environmental Services as meeting the Storm Management Manual’s Ecoroof Facility Design Criteria.
