Reno Landscaping Standards and Credits Toward Requirements

The purpose of landscaping standards as established in Reno Land Development Code § 18.04.801 is to prioritize the planting of large shade trees to reduce urban heat, improve the streetscape environment by providing street tree plantings, encourage low impact development infrastructure to direct stormwater into landscaped or natural areas, promote use of xeriscape design principles utilizing drought-tolerant or native plants and the efficient use of water, reduce the effects of heat and cold on buildings, public areas, and parking lots.

According to § 18.04.804(d) Developments shall earn credits toward landscaping requirements by providing landscaping on parking structures within retention and detention areas, keeping land undeveloped and undisturbed, preserving wetland and stream environments, landscaping common areas and public right-of-way, and preserving existing, mature, healthy trees on site.
