Reno Sustainability and Climate Action Plan 2019-2025 prioritizes tree planting and shade canopies. It aims to double its urban forest canopy so that its canopy coverage reaches 10% of total area by 2036, which means that 130,000 new trees must be planted. By 2040, it aims to reach 100% of fair distribution of trees (pages 70, 100-109).
Action Plan also identifies opportunities to reduce impermeable surfaces and implement green infrastructure and LID to achieve goal of 25% more green infrastructure by 2025. The plan defines green infrastructure as natural — an interconnected network of waterways,
wetlands, woodlands, wildlife habitats, and other natural areas and man-made systems that mimic natural systems for retention and infiltration of stormwater. Rain gardens, bioswales, porous pavement, and green roofs are examples of engineered systems. Plan identifies goal to enforce the Construction Site Best Management Practices Handbook and Truckee Meadows Structural Controls and LID Manual. (pages 36, 125-126, 129, 131).
The pan has goals to reach 100% renewable energy in annual city operations by 2025, 50% renewable energy citywide and 80% renewable energy citywide.
