Rome Encourages Green and White Roofs

This Rome Ordinance expressly encourages the use of green and white roofs. Further, roof design standards in the C-1 and C-3 districts require visual variety for long rooflines and promote sustainable features. Rooflines over 100 feet must be variegated every 75 feet and include focal features like gables or dormers. If parapet walls are used, they must wrap the entire roof perimeter (unless bordered by other buildings) and include shadow-creating elements like cornices. Green, blue, and white roofs are encouraged for environmental benefits, while reflective surfaces that cause glare are prohibited — except for solar panels or white roofs designed to reduce heat gain.
