Sacramento Tree Shading Requirements

Under section 17.612.040(B) of the Sacramento City Code, parking lots should have trees planted such that within 15 years of building the parking lot at least 50% will be shaded. The section provides further guidance on calculating shading area of trees. Existing, nonconforming faculties are grandfathered only until they are expanded by 50% of spaces or greater, after which the entire facility must comply with the shading requirement.
