Scottsdale Solar-Ready Zone Requirements

As part of the International Energy Construction Code, city code requires unobstructed residential and commercial rooftop solar-ready zones. Code requires that a solar-ready zone shall be located on roofs of commercial buildings that are oriented between 110 degrees and 270 degrees of true north or have low-slope roofs. A solar-ready zone for residential construction, which includes one- and two-family dwellings and townhouses, shall not be less than 10 percent of the total roof area over conditioned space but not less than 300 sq. ft.
