Seattle Tree Protection Code

The code restricts tree removal on private and public property by limiting the number, size, and type of trees that can be removed. It requires permits for removals during development and mandates replacement trees through on-site replacement, ‘in-lieu payments’ made to the city which funds urban forest maintenance, or, in certain cases, off-site planting on public property.
