Sisseton Tree Preservation Code

Sisseton’s Code of Ordinances § 9.08.030 states that no person shall willfully injure, destroy, or deface any tree, shrub, plant, or grass in any parking lot or park. Additionally, no person shall willfully injure or destroy any cultivated fruits or vegetables, ornamental trees, shrubs, hedges, vines, or flowers, nor injure or carry off any of the products thereof which are the property of the city. § 12.24.040 states that when the city council finds it necessary to order the trimming, preservation, or removal of trees or plants upon private property or in the boulevard or other public areas, they shall serve a written order to correct the condition upon the owner, or occupant where the tree is located. The order shall give the owner or occupant thirty (30) days to remove or trim the tree. In cases of extreme danger to persons or other public property, the city council shall have the authority to require compliance immediately upon service of the order.
