Southlake Tree Preservation Ordinance

Southlake’s tree protection ordinance set standards for tree protection and preservation. The ordinance incorporates protections for the critical root zone around protected trees, which is defined as: “The area of undisturbed natural soil around a tree defined by a horizontal circle drawn at grade with the center being the center of the trunk of the tree and a radius equal to the distance from the trunk to the outermost portion of the drip line.” The ordinance also defines (at Appendix B) a list of “recommended trees” for complying with planting requirements, the majority of which are species native to Texas.
