Springfield Stormwater Management Ordinance

The ordinance applies stormwater management requirements to most large new construction projects and renovations that increase a site’s impervious area by 5,000 square feet. The Ordinances objects include to “[r]require that new development, redevelopment and all land conversion activities maintain the natural hydrologic characteristics of the land,” to “[e]encourage the use of low-impact development (LID) practices, such as reducing impervious cover, treating and infiltrating stormwater at the source,” and to “[p]provide stormwater facilities that are functional, attractive, maintain the natural integrity of the environment, and are designed to protect public safety.” (§ 336-2)
