Washington State Solar-Ready Provisions

Solar provisions for section or sections of the roof or building overhang designated and reserved for the future installation of a solar photovoltaic or solar water-heating system. WAC 51-51-60106 mandates “solar-ready provisions” for new detached one- and two-family dwellings and townhouses in Washington State, aiming to simplify future solar photovoltaic (PV) system installations. This regulation requires a designated solar-ready zone on the roof, with specific minimum size requirements. The code mandates electrical readiness and a roof structure that is capable of supporting the additional weight of solar panels
